In this day and age many believe that it is good to have a strong government to protect the people. There are many good sides to this. For instance, even the poor would be able to have regular doctor and dentist appointments. Secondly, all would have access to education which is essential to the economic development of a country. Im sure you can think of many more examples.
However, there is one downside which I have noticed. It is that whenever there is a strong government (or government who intervenes a lot in society) the role of the family immediately becomes less important. I live in a Sweden where there is a very strong government who provides almost everything to the people and I notice that this has caused many people who live in Sweden to become less family oriented since they don't need their family for survival. For example, if I ever ran away from home I would be fine - if someone ever bothered me I could always go to the police, if I got sick I could go to the doctor for a cheap price or free of charge, if I couldn't find a job I could get an allowance from the government.
In a society with a weak government (or a government who doesnt intervene much in society), on the other hand, you have to rely on your family for protection. Therefore, you become a lot closer to your family and have more of a sense of unity and identity. If something ever happens, you don't go running to the police - you run to your father or cousin instead. In effect, you will develop a much closer relationship to those around you.
Now I'll just let you think about it
